Trading Sessions

Ideal U.S. Trading Sessions & Times for U.S. Futures.

Identifying the best times of day in the market can have a significant impact on your trading. Understanding when these opportune moments occur can also help you avoid trading during chaotic or slow periods.

The two most popular U.S. Futures trading sessions.

While the U.S. futures markets are open five days a week, twenty three hours a day, smart traders know when they are most effective and when to take a break. Choose your trading hours carefully.

This is based on the U.S Eastern time zone.

New York Open

The New York Open at 9:30am is widely recognized for its high liquidity and volatility. 9:30am to 4:00pm EST Monday to Friday is considered the regular trading hours for the U.S. stock market.

Vinny E. Mini prefers to "sit on hands" from 9:30am EST New York Open until 9:35am to let the extreme market volatility settle.

9:40am - 9:50am Reversal

Soon after the New York Open of 9:30am EST, there often tends to be a significant reversal anywhere from 9:40am to 9:50am. This reversal does not happen every single trading day and the time frame is not exact, but it is fairly common. We have professional traders in our community that specifically look for the 9:40am to 9:50am Reversal opportunities.

Shortly after the U.S. markets open at 9:30am EST, a significant market reversal often occurs between 9:40am and 9:50am.

The 9:40am and 9:50am Reversal is not an entry strategy on its own. It is a time of day to be stalking a trade and gathering more factors of confluence towards your trading analysis.

The 9:40am to 9:50am Reversal can be a bullish or bearish reversal.

Examples Of The 9:40am - 9:50am Reversal

STUDY: A bullish FibDot appears as price touches the Super Bands (MACV chart - center), a Double Delta Flag appears with a FlowMaster™ Alpha cross (AlgoBars 3 chart - right), all at approximately 9:41am EST.
STUDY: Price reaches resistance VL1 & VL2 (24 Range chart - Left); Super Bands touched on the MACV chart (center), and a FlowMaster™ Omega cross shows up just after a bearish Shark PRZ, at approximately 9:45am EST.

Danger Zone / Coffee Time

From 10:10am to 10:30am, it is designated as a No Trade Zone, providing the market an opportunity to return to favorable trading conditions before trading resumes.

The 10:10am to 10:30am No Trade Zone, also known as the Danger Zone or Coffee Time, is a designated break period until the market returns to favorable trading conditions.

BTFD / STFR

Abbreviations for "Buy The Dip" and "Sell The Rip," BTFD and STFR are colloquial terms found in finance culture online. When markets have been trending in the afternoon, there often tends to be a strong "pull back" from the trend, offering an opportunity to those aware enough to capitalize on it.

BTFD or STFR opportunities don't occur every day, nor do they occur at the same time, but when they do occur, it often happens around 15:30 or 3:30pm EST.

Vinny E. Mini prefers to take at least a two hour break between sessions to clear his mind in order to potentially regain full focusing ability for the second session if the afternoon session seems appealing to trade.

Trading Sessions 2 - Asia & Europe

Markets are global and futures can be traded around the clock, when Asia and Europe are in their regular business hours.

The average human brain is capable of approximately 60-90 minutes of maximum concentration at a time, therefore we leverage this knowledge to limit our trading sessions as such, to optimize cognitive performance and time efficiency.

It is not recommended for new traders to trade the Asia & European sessions.
